This paper explores the effectiveness of coloured Iron Oxides in Tinted Sunscreens against Ultraviolet, Visible Light and Near-Infrared Radiation. The researchers tested a sunscreen in an in-vitro study containing zinc oxide and iron oxides, along with a synthetic dye called erioglaucine, to see if it could block not only UV but also visible light and NIR (near-infrared radiation).

Results:

Results showed the sunscreen with zinc oxide, iron oxides, and erioglaucine blocked almost all UV, visible light, and a significant portion of NIR radiation in vitro. The study concludes that this new combination of ingredients effectively protects the skin from various types of harmful radiation from the sun, emphasising the importance of comprehensive protection to prevent skin damage and again.
