Maximise Your Skin (and Your Workout) Goals
How you should prep your skin for the gym is a question we are asked often; whether you should cleanse post work out, which products to wear to the gym and if SPF really does block pores while exercising.
To maximise your skin (and your workout) goals, we’ve answered some of our most Frequently Asked Fitness Questions to help you get glowing no matter what the day (or pilates timetable) holds.
Should I cleanse after exercising? Even if it's the morning?
There’s a reason we’re firm believers in only cleansing in the evening: it allows for proper repair and maintenance of your skin’s barrier function (constant cleansing and stripping can downgrade its efficacy, leading to sensitised skin and concerns including inflammation, dehydration and acne), and allow for skin to absorb all of those wonderful nutrients from your previous night’s routine.
That said, even life gets in the way of our best skintentions. Our advice? Listen to your skin. After a particularly strenuous workout (read: sweaty), you might feel more comfortable with a single cleanse followed by your morning Essential Six routine. Otherwise, a rinse with tepid water before a full daytime regime is the best option.
Not an early riser? We get it—sometimes the exercise game is more easily won later in the day. If you’re exercising during sunlight hours, we suggest a rinse, pat dry and reapplication of your SPF. For evening training sessions, follow your workout with your regular cleansing regime, followed by your prescribed PM Essential Six routine.
